Do You Remember Where You Were?

Since it is the 8th anniversary of September 11, 2001, I'd like to know what everyone was doing when they found out about the terrorist attacks.

I was on my mission in Washington DC. We were in Kensington, Maryland at the stake center near the temple having a zone conference. Our guest speaker was late. We must have started around 8:30. He finally arrived a little after 9am. He got up to speak at the pulpit and said, "when you leave here today, the world will be a different place." In all my naivety I thought, "alright! Go missionaries!"

He went on to explain that two planes had just hit the twin towers. I couldn't grasp if he was telling a parable or the truth and if it was the truth, what did that mean. Well, it turns out that he was telling the truth and I learned a year and a half later what really happened since we weren't allowed to watch TV or read newspapers.

It wasn't until we went to the Smithsonian at the end of 2002 and they had a September 11th display that I watched any footage.

I'd love comments on where you were. Thanks.

I was home that morning. Jodi and the kids had just left on the bus to pick up the A.M. kid. I turned on the TV just after the first plane had hit. I thought it was an accident (plane hitting a building). When the second plane hit. When Jodi came by I ran out to tell her what had happened. The kids she was picking up had already told her. I spent the rest of the day watching the events of the day come to life.

I was a junior in high school on September 11, 2001. It was a late start day, so I was in the library waiting for class to start because I was there early. I remember standing there watching the tv and the entire library was buzzing. For the rest of the day we only talked about that, in every class. We had some interesting discussions in AP Government. I don't think I fully understood the situation until a little later in life when people I knew were enlisting.

Thanks for asking us to post. I know I should think of these things more often. Love ya Kel!

I was driving my morning bus route and when I stopped at the Lynndyl Post Office stop Mary Sue Dutson was there and told me that a plane hit the twin towers. I didn't know what the twin towers were. When we got to Delta I went to my mom's house and turned on the TV. It was a day of unbelief, you couldn't believe what your eyes were seeing. Wherever I went the TV was on and everyone watched it for at least a week.

Morgan's so cute. Gotta love those hair do's. I'm missing her and her parents too. Whole wheat, yeah.

I was a junior in high school still in my business math class when we found out. They wouldn't give us all the details but they keep us later that day just in case anything were to come any closer to where we were. I just remember worrying about the friends i had in dc and my bishop that worked in the pentagon.

I was at home in bed. We got a call from my sister-in-law, who lived in NYC, telling us to turn on the TV. Gary was so freaked out because his parents were flying into NYC from Switzerland and then were coming on to Utah. He thought they could have been on one. Then I watched the news as the 2nd plane hit and then the other two. I eventually had to go to work but remember that no one was actually working. Everyone was trying to gather around any TV or radio they could to get any info. It was such a crazy and scary day. I remember everyone trying to plan an escape route in case it happened again where they were.
That is crazy that you did not get to see anything. I think that would be so weird to not see it until later especially being so close to where things were happening.

i was getting ready for my second day of hair school. one of our friends had called and told me to turn on the tv. i thought he was kidding and didn't feel like i had time to turn on the tv since i was nervously getting ready for school. i had no idea how big of a deal it was.

I worked and early shift and had about a 10 minute drive. I always had the radio on and it came over the radio that there had been a terrorist attack and that two planes had hit the twin towers. I cried all the way to work. I worked in a call center working with GM dealers and had a dealer from NY call me and was explaining what was going on there. it was heart wrenching. We ended up just closing down and I went home and woke Matt(he worked nights) and we just held each other.
